How to connect with Remote Desktop (RDP) on Windows 8.1

This guide will take you step by step through, how to connect with Remote Desktop (RDP) on Windows 8.1 to a server.

Step 1. First, click on "Start".

Step 2. Next, write "remote desktop connection" or some of it and you should get the Remote Desktop Connection program in the search list, as shown below.

Step 3. As "Computer", I choose to connect through the IP address, but you can also use the name of the computer or server.

Step 4. After I have typed in the IP address, I choose the "Show Options", so I am able to save a shortcut on the desktop + I am able to choose the user account I want to connect with.

Step 5. Here I am saving a shortcut to remote my server on the desktop of this computer, which you save like any other file.

Step 6. After saving the shortcut, I can choose to connect to the IP with the username I typed in.

Step 7. After I have typed "Connect", I am asked if I trust this remote connection with the possibility not to ask me about this again. Click "Connect" again, to move on.

Step 8. Now I get prompted with a password for the user account I choose earlier, which I type in and click "OK". Here I also have the chance to check "Remember my credentials". Now, if I choose that, it will save the credentials in the shortcut on the desktop aswell, so I would not have to enter that again, the next time I use it.

Step 9. Last, I get a warning about the remote computer that I try to connect to, due to the security certificate. Here you can check if it is the right computer you are trying to connect too aswell. Here you also have the possibility to check that out aswell for next time (not always that works though) - Click "Yes", when you want to proceed and then you should logged into the remote computer.
