How to install Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)

This guide will take you step by step through how to install Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) on server 2012 R2, though this is just a basic installation, so I am not going through everything that is possible to setup.

Step 1. First, choose "Add roles and features" on the dashboard, as shown below.

Step 2. click "Next" on the Wizard, as shown below.

Step 3. Choose "Role-based or feature-based Installation", as shown below.

Step 4. Now you have to choose which server you want to install this new role or feature on. Choose "Select a server from the server pool" and you should be able to see your server in the small window below and then hit "Next", as shown below. Choosen server is marked blue.

Step 5. Then you get the list of roles that are available. Choose "DHCP Server" and a window should pop up.

Step 6. click "Add Features", if you picked the right role to install, as shown below.

Step 7. Next, you are back to the list, where "DHCP Server" have been checkmarked, if so then click "Next", as shown below.

Step 8. As there are not any features that we need to install additionally, you just click "Next" here, as shown below.

Step 9. Before you can start the installation of DHCP Server, you get some information about the role and what is a very good idea to have done before installing the role. When you are ready, hit "Next", as shown below.

Step 10. Now we are ready to install the role, DHCP Server, so click "Install", when you are ready.

Step 11. Installation of DHCP Server role is done and you can click "Close" to finish the wizard and start to configure DHCP on the server now.
